The Lower Mainland Coast Metro Consortium offers an annual three part workshop series on topics related to curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Over the past few years our in-services series keynotes have included: Andy Hargreaves, Dennis Shirley, Damian Cooper, Karen Hume, Rick Stiggins, Jan Chappuis, and Ron Ritchhart.
Last year we were very pleased to feature Jay McTighe as our keynote speaker and learning facilitator for the 2015-2016 Coast Metro In-service Series. Jay is the co-author of Understanding by Design (UbD) and a well-known presenter on curriculum design.
This interactive, three-part workshop series took place on November 17-18 2015 and February 15 2016 at the Executive Hotel and Conference Centre (405 North Road in Coquitlam). Participants in the series had the opportunity to apply the principles and practices of UbD and work in grade/subject area groups to collaborative develop units of study based on the Big Ideas and Learning Standards embedded in the new BC Curriculum. Examples and photos from the 2015-16 series are posted under the UbD Resources page.
Response from the in-service series was so positive that our Consortium has invited Jay back in the spring of 2016. Please check this year’s Coast Metro Series page for information about Jay’s two day seminar in March 2017!
